• TOP SIGHTS IN MONMARTRE DISTRICT • FREE GUIDED WALKING TOUR • PROFESSIONAL TOUR GUIDE • DURATION 1.5 HOURS.
THE TOUR
Come and enjoy an artistic center of Paris, the Montmartre Distric, also known as the 18th Arrondissement. A place rich in artistic history, beauty, culture, and commune. A location whose name originates from the word "Mount of the Martyrs," as a result of a bishop having been martyered on the hill around 250 AD, who had, with his decapitated head walked all the way to Saint Denis, an hour away, by foot, turning Montmarte to a popular pilgrimage, in particular for bohemian types, ever since. As a result, many famous artists have also frequented the area, including Henri Toulouse, a man made famous in his paintings of French ballerinas and prostitutes, Vincent Van Gogh, the painter of “Starry Night,” Pablo Picasso, the orinator of cubism, and Renoir, a key figure of the impressionist movement A beautiful white doomed basilica, the Basilica of the Sacré-Coeuron, also grazes the top of Montmartre, which, at it’s summit, holds one of the best views in all of Paris, complete with vineyards and windmills grazing the sides of this epic hill. Creating an “oh so” artistically beautiful neighborhood that even Disneyland canot compete with. The neighborhood, with Pigalle, has also become renowed for it`s nightlife, in particualr with the Moulin Rouge, a famous cabaret, which stands at the bottom of the hill. All enjoyed on this free tour, $15 donation is highly suggested, the Free Montmartre District Tour with Best of Paris Tours.
